Millions Of Users Leaving Facebook

Millions of people have left Facebook for alternative social networks and new apps, reports The Guardian.Studies suggest that Facebook’s reach into the U.S., U.K., Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Japan and other European countries has finally peaked and is regressing.
According to an analysis by SocialBakers, over the past six months, a total of 9 million Americans have left Facebook, while 2 million people in the U.K. have quit.
“The problem is that, in the U.S. and U.K., most people who want to sign up for Facebook have already done it,” Enders Analysis new media specialist Ian Maude told The Guardian. “There is a boredom factor where people like to try something new. Is Facebook going to go the way of Myspace? The risk is relatively small, but that is not to say it isn’t there.”
Instagram gained 30 million users in only 18 months, before Facebook bought it. Path, the mobile phone-based social network and app, has gained over 9 million users. Path was created by former Facebook employee Dave Morin.
According to SocialBakers, Facebook has in increased Brazil (up 6%) and India (up 4%) in March.
Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project reported that 61 percent of Facebook users had taken a “Facebook vacation” due to lack of interest, drama or realizing that they were spending too much time of the site.
If Facebook users leave, or even check in less frequently, Facebook’s revenue growth will suffer. Facebook depends on targeted advertising for most of its money.
